Who qualifies for the Desert Playwrights’ Retreat?
If you are a playwright at any level of experience who is part of the LGBTQIA community, you are welcome at the Desert Playwrights’ Retreat. Each cohort will have a specific focus for participants, so while you may not qualify for some, you will certainly qualify for others!
How much does the Desert Playwrights’ Retreat cost?
Nothing. DPR will provide lodging, plus transportation and food stipends.
Where is the Desert Playwrights’ Retreat?
Palm Springs, CA or the surrounding areas. (Downtown Palm Springs will never be more than 15 minutes away.)
When is the Desert Playwrights’ Retreat?
Twice a year – April and October.
Do I have to attend the entire week?
In general, yes, you should plan being at the Retreat for the entire week.
How many playwrights per cohort, and how many cohorts per Retreat?
Up to six (6) playwrights per cohort; typically two (2) cohorts per Retreat.
How long does the retreat last?
Seven (7) days – an entire week, Monday thru Sunday.
How does lodging work?
Playwrights will be housed together in identity-based cohorts at the same rental property. There are typically two (2) rental properties in play for each Retreat. Private solo rooms will typically be available, with occasional shared rooms when the need arises and only if agreed upon by both playwrights.
Am I responsible for my own meals?
Although DPR will provide a $50 food stipend, playwrights will be responsible for their own meals, with the anticipation of some communal cooking. Grocery store runs will be made as needed.
